AS: Weekly Challenge - 3

Weekly Challenge 3: Editing: What is a "graphic match (or match cut)".

There are many famous examples of this technique. Therefore, I expect all of you to provide both an explanation and example. Try to not offer up the same example as everyone else.

Good luck!

  1. A graphic match or match cut is when something is shown on screen for example a coffe cup thenthen a moon is editied over the top and the shot changes. Another example is an extreme close-up of an eye transforming into the sun, then the next shot appears.

  2. A graphic match or match cut is two successive shots joined so as to create a strong similarity of compositional elements (e.g., colour, shape). It is a cut in film editing from one scene to another in which the two camera shots' compositional elements match, helping to establish a strong continuity of action.

A graphic match is when a close up of an object transforms into another object of the same shape. This is to get from one scene to the next without using a cut or fade.
